Meet Alex Beard, founder and Pilates instructor, who’ll be helping bring energy and wellbeing to Community RunFest Rayleigh this summer.
Tell us about your business
I’m a Pilates instructor teaching mat and reformer classes across Leigh-on-Sea and Rayleigh, with a strong focus on building a supportive and inclusive community.
Alongside studio sessions, I host free beach Pilates to make movement accessible for everyone and lower the barrier to entry into fitness. My approach goes beyond
physical exercise, I’m passionate about creating spaces where people can connect, feel empowered, and support their mental wellbeing. Whether it’s someone’s first class or part of their regular routine, I aim to help every individual feel stronger, more confident, and part of something positive.
Why are you passionate about fitness?
My passion comes from my background in gymnastics and competitive running, where structure, discipline, and being part of a like-minded community shaped who I am today. Fitness gave me confidence, purpose, and a strong support network growing up.
I know first-hand how powerful movement can be, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. That’s what drives me now, helping others discover that same sense of belonging and strength. My favourite thing about it is seeing you discover that you’re stronger than you think!
How will RunFest benefit the community?
Community RunFest is such a beautiful way to bring people together through
movement, connection, and shared experience. It creates an inclusive space where everyone, regardless of ability, can take part, feel supported, and celebrate what their body can do.
Events like this break down barriers to fitness and encourage people to try something new in a welcoming environment. Beyond the physical benefits, it creates friendships, boosts mental wellbeing, and strengthens the sense of community. It’s exactly the kind of positive, uplifting space that we need.
