Performance coach Stefano Russo shares his passion for running, wellbeing and why Community RunFest is about so much more than race day.

For Stefano Russo, movement has always been part of life.

From representing his county in swimming and playing football from a young age, to now helping professional athletes and everyday individuals reach their full potential, Stefano believes that health, fitness and mindset go hand in hand.

As an online performance coach at SR Elite Performance, Stefano supports everyone from elite footballers to people simply looking to build healthier habits and become the best version of themselves. But this July, he'll be swapping coaching for running as he joins hundreds of others on the Community RunFest Rayleigh start line.

We caught up with Stefano to talk about his passion for running, the power of community and why he believes events like Community RunFest can inspire people of all ages to lead healthier, more active lives.

Tell us a little about yourself and what you do.

I am a performance coach working online, running two separate programmes for athletes and the general public.

The Elite Programme is designed for professional and semi-professional footballers, supporting them with all aspects of sports science and strength & conditioning.

My goal is to help them unlock their full potential and maximise their athleticism so they can perform at the highest level possible.

The Train Programme is for the everyday athlete, highly driven individuals who want to become the best version of themselves.

It focuses on building better habits around health and fitness, whether that’s competing in fitness events, getting stronger, or simply just wanting to build a healthy life all round that supports long-term performance and wellbeing.

What inspires your passion for running, fitness and helping others achieve their goals?

Growing up, having played football from a young age and represented my county in swimming, fitness has always been a huge part of my life.

The impact it can have on both your physical and mental wellbeing is massive, with benefits that extend far beyond sport and exercise.

After stepping away from football, I found a love for running, which grew even stronger during the first COVID lockdown.

The sense of achievement that comes from competing is like no other, and the relationships you can build within the running community are incredible.

Running brings people together, creates lasting friendships, and plays a huge role in improving long-term health and wellbeing.

Why do you think Community RunFest Rayleigh is important for our local community?

RunFest is just the beginning of something special that has the power to bring so many people together, not only for a one-day event but for years to come as the community continues to grow.

It provides the perfect opportunity for people to kick-start their fitness journey, helping adults improve their long-term health while encouraging the younger generation to build positive habits that can last a lifetime.

This event is for everybody, regardless of age or ability, creating an inclusive environment where people can challenge themselves, connect with others, and enjoy being active.

It is something I am incredibly proud and honoured to be a part of.
